During reflection time in service today, Rev. Lau asked us to fill in the blank. "The Lord is my ____________"
I just sit there for minutes, thinking. Names of God started flashing through my head. In the seminary chapel this year, we are looking at the different names of God...
YHWH
Jehovah
Good Shephard
El Shaddai - God Almighty
Gaol - Redeemer
Shaphat - Judge
Logos - Word
Adonai - Master
Jehovah-Jirah - The Lord will Provide
Elohim - God
Jehovah-Shalom - The Lord of Peace
El lyon - Lord Most High
Yesha - Saviour
Abba - Father
Sophia - The Wisdom of God
Ego emi - I AM
Yet, I sat in silence... asking myself what does God mean to me? All the names for God means so much. But if David sees God as his shepherd, what do I see God as?
Then I wrote down, "The Lord is my __breath__."
Genesis 2:7 "the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being."
The breath of life is the essence of our being. It is the likeness of God that He breathed into us. It is what makes us alive, what sustains our lives. Yet, with this breath, He gives us purpose.
Genesis 2: 4 This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created.
When the LORD God made the earth and the heavens- 5 and no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth and no plant of the field had yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no man to work the ground, 6 but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground-
The Lord watered the land He created, and He created man to work to ground and take care of His creation. This breath is not just to give us life, it defines who we are and our purpose - it gives meaning to our lives.
The Lord is my __breath__.
breath of God
by shane barnard
a life you cannot define
a purpose thats benign
they need to see and believe
be led to the rugged tree
the one on which he cried not for his pain but for our debt
the very same tree that He conquered death
it was an unfair deal on the part of Christ
He got my sin, i got eternal life
make me the breath of God
and i'll show them the One that means the most to me
they'll see the face of love
be touched by the very one who died upon the tree
small talk is a better choice
a way to avoid Your voice
i need to feel the dust on my knees
and lead them to the tree
will you follow Me, lead them to the tree
can't you just believe, will you take a knee for eternity
